Happy Hour Fund is a grassroots mutual aid fund providing financial assistance and necessities to excluded workers in Los Angeles County and the Washington metropolitan area whose lives have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. 100% of proceeds go to excluded workers.

The COVID-19 pandemic has called attention to the disparate levels of class inequality in the United States. While for some of us, our happy hour funds—money for after-work drinks or grabbing a bite with friends—grow, vital workers in our communities continue to lose their jobs with limited social and economic support.

We started this fund with the idea that if everyone pitches in a little, we can begin to impact people’s lives. Donate your happy hour fund to support workers today!

We operate out of Washington, DC—the native land of the Nacotchtank (Anacostian) and Piscataway—as well as Los Angeles, CA—the native land of the Kizh, Chumash, and Tongva.

#DonateYourDrink using Venmo, CashApp, or Paypal. 100% of your donation goes to the financial assistance grant. Although we recommend donations of $10+, we understand these are uncertain times and appreciate any amount you can contribute.

You can also support by purchasing our merch online or in-person in DC or LA!

Support Happy Hour Fund by purchasing our merch online or in-person in DC or LA! You can order stickers online from Redbubble for $5 each or buy them in person at the Mt. Pleasant Farmers’ Market (DC) on Saturday mornings.

You can now pre-order a Happy Hour Fund t-shirt! These t-shirts are specially designed for Happy Hour Fund by local artists Ali Oksner (LA) and Mahalia Smith (DC) and printed by a local small business in Los Angeles. Pay what you can between $25-$30 per shirt, ranging in sizes S-2XL! Shipping or local pick up options available.

We provide $200 financial assistance grants to excluded workers who live or work in the Los Angeles County or Washington metropolitan area (District of Columbia, Virginia, and Maryland). Grants are electronically distributed through Venmo, CashApp, Paypal, and Zelle/Quickpay. The application is only available electronically on Google Forms. All eligible individuals may apply—read eligibility requirements before applying.

The Happy Hour Fund grant application opens at the end of every month. Based on the amount of available funds, we will open the application for an equal number of grants in DC and LA. Applications are accessible in English and Spanish and are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

We are currently not aware of how many grants we will have available in January 2022. Please check for updates at a later time.
